Fetal Medicine
The Department of Fetal Medicine is led by a team of highly skilled specialists who provide diagnosis and treatment for unborn babies’ complications. We aim to provide the highest standard of care in a professional, calm, and supportive environment. Our recognised multidisciplinary team of gynaecologists, paediatric cardiologists, paediatric urologists, and paediatric surgeons offers individualised care for pregnant women and their families, when there is a concern for the health of an unborn baby.
Fetal medicine specialists specialise in high-risk pregnancy, which means that they can treat any condition or situation that threatens the mother’s or foetus’s health or life.
The department provides a comprehensive service throughout pregnancy in the diagnosis and management of all fetal conditions. Services are provided by a dedicated team of doctors to provide seamless care in fetal medicine, including congenital abnormalities and complicated pregnancy.
Some of the following conditions will be monitored and treated by a fetal medicine specialist:
- Existing conditions such as HIV, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes
- complications from previous pregnancies, e.g., pre-eclampsia, pre-term births
- Problems with the fetus, e.g., birth defects
- Multiple gestation—twins, triplets, or other multiples
